I've been playing around with the Android OS and tools this week, and I am very impressed. The best Mobile OS setup I have ever seen. Working on my first app now, can't wait to get it out there.

Music music everywhere
I'm going to be taking a look at Audiveris/,a program which can generate music XML from pictures of sheet music. Anything which can generate XML is good in my book, and this seems to be a great program to do it. The User Interface looks a little rough, but I gave it a quick demo this morning and it done what it said on the tin. Now to find some style sheets for the Music XML.
Today I will be mostly working on....
Java, Docbook XML and later on a new Site for a friend of mine.
At the moment most of my time is taken up with one client who has hired me to develop a GUI for a revolutionary new product of theirs. It involves lots of Java, a large dose of Ant and Docbook, and a sprinkling of C. I must say that that combination of technologies are a pleasure to work with. Java especially has its detractors, but it is simply a brilliant language for when you need to get the job done without worrying about fiddley quirks and annoyances.
What is great about this system is the Documentation generator which uses DocBook and is powered by Ant. It really saves the hassle of working with Word to produce documents and then convert it to pdf, web, javahelp, etc. One docbook xml will generate it all, and for us we even get our screenshots taken automatically. Bliss.
Welcome to the new Site
I've been working on this new redesign for about a week now, and to my mind its seems to have gone pretty well. My main focus as always was to get accross the product (me) and not overwhelm the viewer. I hope you will agree that it seems to have worked.
I really want to put a big thank you out there to Scott Evans who wrote the brilliant Pixie CMS this site is powered by. He done a superb job and I must say it is so easy to work with its a joy.
I hope to be adding more content to the Web Portfolio page pretty soon, and am actively working on a new Gallery section as well to advertise my photography skills.
